When using Portrait Mode, iOS 16 allows you to blur objects in the foreground of the photo for a more realistic depth-of-field effect, rather than allowing for a background blur adjustment.

The quality of blur has also improved in Cinematic Mode. Apple says that when shooting video in Cinematic mode, profile angles and the depth-of-field effect around the edges of hair and glasses are now more accurate.

These two new camera features are currently exclusive to Apple’s iPhone 13 lineup, but the iPhone 14 will likely support these additions as well.
