According to Apple, Apple plans to launch the second-generation AirPods Pro, which is expected to feature a revamped design, better audio quality, and some potential health integration. by bloomberg Mark Gurman.
As Gurman writes in his latest ignition bulletin,
Keep an eye out for the new AirPods Pro in the fall. The current model has been on the market since the fall of 2019, so the battery is already in trouble for some early adopters. Also check out the AirPods Max update with new colors (and, we hope, a price drop: $550 for those earphones is absurd).
The AirPods Pro hasn’t been updated since its 2019 release, and various rumors have suggested a release this year. Gurman’s claim falls with information previously shared by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said the launch will take place in the second half of the year. The new AirPods Pro may feature a more compact stem-fading design with a new charging case and lossless audio support via a new protocol.
As for AirPods Max, Apple is not expected to work on the second generation model of over-ear headphones released in December 2020. Instead, Apple is believed to be working on new color options. Today, Gurman said the new colors are still in the works, but declined to offer a timeline for when they might be released.
